BREAKING, from POLITICO’s Ben Smith: “DNC now targets House Democrats in health care push: The Democratic National Committee's Organizing for America arm … has launched a similar effort in the House. A version of the same ad, in which citizens recount their families' health care woes and declare that ‘it's time’ for reform, will be running in 15 media markets around the country. The ad doesn't say this, but a look at the media markets indicates that the White House political operation hasn't backed off targeting Democrats -- and indeed, has stepped up that program. The ad will appear in 15 markets, all of them within districts of members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, the key body for a health care bill. All 15 are occupied by members seen as swing voters inside the committee, and 12 of those 15 members are Democrats. The markets where the ad will run … are: Savannah, Palm Springs, Seattle, Nashville, Bloomington, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, Charlotte, Little Rock, Columbus, Marquette, Grand Rapids and Medford.”This follows stories of how the Democrat leadership bought votes of wavering members through heft contributions to their campaigns to get the anti energy cap and trade bill passed in the House.
...
All this suggest that the force of their argument is not persuasive enough for their own members to go along with these liberal programs. It does not bode well for Democrats in 2010.
