Rush revs up conservatives
Rush Limbaugh brought a cheering crowd to its feet several times Saturday at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington as he called on fellow conservatives to take back the country. The story also references ads by liberal groups trying to tie Limbaugh to the leadership of the GOP. I think that is like throwing Brer Rabbit in the brier patch. Liberal hubris must be at work, if they think the rest of country thinks the same way about issues as they do. I am sure Rush appreciates the attention. As this speech demonstrated, he knows what to do with it when people are listening."We conservatives have not done a good enough job of just laying out basically who we are, because we make the mistake of assuming that people know. What they know is largely incorrect, based on the way we're portrayed in pop culture, in the drive-by media, by the Democrat party," the conservative talk show host told a mostly young crowd of energized supporters.
"We want every American to be the best he or she chooses to be. We recognize that we are all individuals. We love and revere our founding documents, the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. We believe that the preamble of the Constitution contains an inarguable truth, that we are all endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights, among them life, liberty, freedom -- and the pursuit of happiness," he said, pausing several times for enthusiastic applause.
Looking ahead to the 2012 election, Limbaugh said conservatives will have to choose the right candidate to take the country back.
Limbaugh's impassioned keynote speech, punctuated by chest-thumping, fist-pumping and chants of "USA" from the crowd, capped off three days of talk at CPAC focusing on rebuilding the Republican Party.

Limbaugh used his self-described "first national address," which ran more than an hour longer than his allotted 20 minutes, to accuse President Obama of inspiring fear in Americans in order to push a liberal agenda of "big government."
"He wants people in fear, angst and crisis, fearing the worst each and every day, because that clears the decks for President Obama and his pals to come in with the answers, which are abject failures, historically shown and demonstrated. Doesn't matter. They'll have control of it when it's all over. And that's what they want," Limbaugh said.
"They see these inequalities, these inequities that capitalism produces. How do they try to fix it? Do they try to elevate those at the bottom? No, they try to tear down the people at the top."

Update: It appears that many of the comments confuse insult with argument. If you look at Rush's comments, you see he does not make that mistake. He focuses on the substance of his difference with Obama and liberals. It is a more enlightened approach and is one reason why he has such a large audience.
BTW, a Fifth Column operation is usually a secret underground opposition group. There is nothing secret about Limbaugh's opposition and he is certainly not shy about proclaiming it.
Using a term coined by Spanish Nationalist general Mola in 1936, Rush Limbaugh is the "Fifth Column". Mr. Limbaugh compares the fate of the nation to a baseball game and wishes that the current administration fail in its bid to recontruct our economy after the debacle of the last eight years of republican mismanagement and warmongering. No president ever sowed more fear in the public than G.W. Bush while engaging in an open class war against the working and middle classes. Mr. Limbaugh was a staunch supporter of president Bush.
ReplyDeleteIf the Obama government now fails, the nation fails. Mr. Limbaugh, in my opinion, is a fifth columnist, a traitor to the country.
Here's a few factoids about this self-anointed political guru: Limbaugh never studied economics. (And he obviously never studied civics, either). Never earned an advanced degree in anything. In fact, he never even earned a college degree. He never served in the armed forces, nor has he ever held any public office. In fact, he has never served his country in any way, other than to demonize his fellow Americans, and make millions in the process. This former TV sidekick of Wally George and Joe McCarthy wannabee, discovered his malignant niche in life many years ago when he stumbled upon a pulsating aneurysm of conservative rage in this country. The seething anger of various hate groups were coalescing and going mainstream, and Limbaugh endeavored to become their voice. His crowning glory was appearing recently as the honored guest and orator at CPAC. Taking an hour longer than the 20 minutes he had been allotted, Limbaugh made a high school civics error by attributing a famous line from the Declaration of Independence to the Preamble of the U.S. Constitution. And, it is no small irony that most of his fawning audience didn't catch the mistake. I've seen this character before, in several old black and white movies. He's the fat, sweaty guy in the rumpled white suit, surrounded by a few demented followers in a small rundown shack on the outskirts of town, screaming that his enemies and their evil ways are going to bring destruction upon the world. Then the roof caves in.
ReplyDeletePlease, dear commenters, realize that Rush lives at the corner of rhetoric and propaganda. He never uttered a word against Geo W. Bush in eight years of Bush abandoning conservatism for radicalism and driving the Republican Party, and the country into a ditch in the process. Yet yesterday, Rush expounded on how conservative "principles" must never be abandoned. This from a man who willingly, eagerly, and consistently abandoned all his principles for eight years because the President of the US was weak enough and stupid enough to listen to him.
ReplyDeleteHe also told a story that, to Rush, is a very tender one and dear to his heart because it confirms his status as conservative number one. It was the day before his birthday, and he had lunch with Bush in the White House. A cake in the shape of a microphone had been made, and the President himself led the singing "Happy Birthday" to the Great One.
So to all you fools who listen to this drivel, I say you're now getting your just desserts just as your "core values" have been reawakened. Too bad you weren't paying attention for all the "dead years" of GWB.Please, please, please keep listening to Rush and miss the fact that Rush's day is over.
A moron leading morons.
ReplyDeleteI have two friends who went to high-school with Rush.
ReplyDeleteSeems he was the below average fat kid in ill-fitting cloths who usually smelled bad, had few, if any friends and was prone to blurting out strange and offensive things in class, just to get a rise out of the room.
Seems not much has really changed!
His one great accomplishment in life is that he has turned his problems, issues and anger into fame, fortune and POWER -the ultimate revenge of the nerd.
Only trouble is what he has become a real drag on our nation as this seriously damaged man has influence and sway over so many others, all of whom seem just as damaged as he is.
For the last 8 years (actually a whole lot longer) we've had an administration pad the truth with optimism when needed, "will be greated as liberators", "mission accomplished", and fear, "15 minutes to launch", "Iraq tried to acquire yellocake uranium in Niger", etc....
ReplyDeleteThis is nothing new. Rush and his fellow neo-cons (not to be confused with REAL CONSERVATISM (which is a good thing)) is just upset that Obama plays the game very well. If the Republicans cannot shake the fringe elements of their party they'll lose again in 2012.
