Gitmo detainees not welcome in Texas

Don’t mess with Texas.

That’s the message a group of Texas Republican members of Congress delivered to President Barack Obama on Wednesday, in a letter asking him not to send Guantanamo Bay detainees to Texas after the facility is closed.

"The transfer or release of Gitmo detainees presents a clear and present danger to all Americans," Rep. Lamar Smith of San Antonio wrote in the letter, signed by 19 other GOP lawmakers. "The Obama Administration must take our request seriously. We will do everything in our power to prevent the transfer or release of known-terrorists into the neighborhoods and communities of Texas."

Among those signing the letter were Reps. Kay Granger of Fort Worth, Joe Barton of Arlington, Michael Burgess of Lewisville and Kenny Marchant of Coppell, and Sen. John Cornyn.

"Right now, nobody knows what’s going to happen," Burgess said. "But as the gears grind slowly and nothing has happened, there could be a push to find places to deposit folks. And the concern is if it happens, wherever they go, they could become eligible for release there.

"I, for one, don’t want them released in Texas."

"We still don’t know how the Obama administration plans to deal with this problem," Granger said. "But there is no chance I will be supportive of any detainees being released or transferred to the state of Texas, or anywhere in the United States for that matter."

Closing Gitmo so some self righteous liberals can feel good about themselves and please some Euroweenies who don't like us anyway is a mistake. Transferring them to Texas would compound that mistake. I find the moral preening over the subject disgusting. We should plan on keeping the current inmates at Gitmo there until the end of the war.

    They were incarcerated during Bush/Cheney so we should put em on Bush's Texas Ranch

29 % of companies say they are unlikely to keep insurance after Obamacare
