Does Obama want to close Bagram detention too
There is much more. Here is a dirty little secret. The US has been keeping prisoners at Bagram that would have been shipped to Gitmo were it not for the PR blitz by the terrorist rights crowd. As a result the prison population in Bagram has grown and will get larger as Gitmo is shut down. It is not as secure a location as Gitmo and there have been escapes of high value al Qaeda ops who should have been at Gitmo. I think that if Gitmo is actually closed the terrorist rights crowd will turn their attention on Bagram and try to get those terrorist released to plan further mass murder for Allah.Every Monday, at a Red Cross compound in Kabul, Pashtu families gather for a glimpse by live video feed of brothers, sons and husbands who have disappeared into a feared detention centre at the main American base in Afghanistan.
As President Barack Obama declared with a fanfare his intention to close the controversial Guantanamo Bay terrorist detention camp last week, he made no mention of another growing US-run prison - with more than twice as many inmates and an even murkier legal status.
More than 600 detainees are held at the US Bagram Theatre Internment Facility - known by campaigners as "the other Guantanamo". Not only are there no plans to close it, but it is in the process of being expanded to hold 1,100 illegal enemy combatants; prisoners who cannot see lawyers, have no trials and never see any evidence there may be against them.
