McCain's lead in Missouri grows to 10 points
Missouri is generally considered a bell weather state having voted for the winner in most contest.John McCain has expanded his lead over Barack Obama in Missouri, a new survey says.
McCain's advantage is 50-40, a seven-point increase from Public Policy Polling's July poll, which showed him leading by three points.
Obama's biggest issue is with white voters, who support McCain by a 56-35 margin, observers say.
"There aren't enough black voters in Missouri for Barack Obama to win it if he can't make things more competitive among white voters," said Dean Debnam, president of Public Policy Polling, in a statement. "That's going to be his challenge if he wants to have any chance at winning the state."
McCain leads across every age group and has the advantage with both men and women, the poll shows.

Several other polls released today show the race tightening. The Zogby poll showing McCain with a five point lead is, I believe, the first one to use likely voters. The others are still using the registered voter polling which generally favors Democrats by three to five points. Both the latest NBC and CBS polls show the contest within the margin of error.
I think the celebrity ads have had a huge impact in framing the race and Obama is still struggling in his attempts to deal with them. He has also gotten himself tied up in specifics on several issues which is not his strength. Obama has never had to deal with questions from the pro life side of the issue. In fact this is his first real contested election and it is starting to show.
