How to write a NY Times op-ed

Roger Cohen gives an example of the formula. You start out by showing that important people think you are important.

I got an e-mail the other day from a friend at the New America Foundation....
Or, it could be a phone call from John Kerry or some other Democrat who thinks himself important.

Cohen's emailer believes things are looking up in Africa where authoritarian government is supposedly in decline. To get to that conclusion you have to ignore an awful lot of Africa like Zimbabwe, Sudan, and Somalia to name just a few areas where it appears to be thriving or there is no government at all. African countries have some of the most incompetent governments in the world including places like South Africa. Even most of the benign are still incompetent.

Maybe I should send Cohen an email on the importance of Texas bloggers in the energy debate.
