Convention blogging
The NY Times has a story on the efforts of bloggers to get to Denver for the Democrat convention. Personally, I would not go if someone paid my way and paid me to attend. Well, if they paid a lot I might endure it, but the blogging would not be as good. You have the hassle of getting there and getting to the convention everyday with limited access to the candidates and limited time to look at other media.
I am one of those people who would rather watch the Super Bowl on TV because there is so much more to see and you get a better view of the game. I think conventions are similar. The networks will have hundreds of people working to find the stories and dozens of analyst to comment on events. I would rather watch Brit Hume and listen to what Karl Rove has to say than sit with a group of bloggers pecking on their keyboards. I can multitask and check for material on the internet while watching and keeping my mute button handy for speeches that are of no interest to me.
The Republicans have been giving me daily updates on the preparations going on for their convention and I was offered an opportunity to attend. I have never been to the Twin Cities before and would like to see Minnesota but I don't think I would have had the time to enjoy it. I have to admit that even blogger conference calls can be a distraction from blogging on occasion. I need to avoid distractions from blogging about Obama's distractions. They are just more fun.
For those bloggers going, I hope they have fun and file some post that I find interesting enough to link. If by doing so, they make my blog more interesting, I am all for it, but I like my commute better.
