Obama's singleminded focus on losing Iraq
Reuters/NY Times:
Iraq has been a major strategic defeat for al Qaeda and the Islamist terrorist movement. It has destroyed much of their credibility in the Muslim world. They made it the central front int he war against us and they lost. Obama has decided to do what he can to give it back to them. It is probably too late for that because we ignored his wrongheaded policy against the surge.
Never has a candidate been so obviously wrong about a vital war policy and still be taken seriously on that war. His willful ignorance on what is happening in Iraq knows no end. He is even now pronouncing his policy before he even goes to the country to find out the facts. This is not serious leadership.
The fact is that his policy would have lost Iraq already and made the war against al Qaeda much longer and more costly. There is little room to even debate this fact right now and he only manages by ignoring the facts. He was dead wrong on the surge and the media should not let him off the hook on that.
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said on Tuesday a "single-minded" focus on Iraq was distracting the United States from other threats and he renewed his vow to end the war. This has to be one of the most ignorant statements ever made about a war by a serious candidate for President."This war diminishes our security, our standing in the world, our military, our economy, and the resources that we need to confront the challenges of the 21st century," Obama said in excerpts of a speech to be delivered later on Tuesday.
"By any measure, our single-minded and open-ended focus on Iraq is not a sound strategy for keeping America safe," he said.
