Iran makes the case for European missile defense
Reuters/NY Times:
Obama. like most liberals, opposes missile defense. He thinks his gift for gab is the best defense, but there is no record that he ever has been able to persuade even his friends to change their mind much less a committed enemy like Iran.
Republican presidential candidate John McCain on Wednesday called for the United States to establish a missile defense shield in Europe to counter Iranian ambitions after that country test-fired nine missiles.McCain's response makes more sense that Obama's call for more negotiations with Iran. Negotiating with a stump would be more productive. At least a stump is not developing nuclear weapons. A delay in reaching a deal with a stump is unlikely to be costly. On the other hand giving Iran the gift of time to develop its nuke will probably get people killed. The tests "demonstrate the need for effective missile defense now and in the future, and this includes missile defense in Europe as is planned with the Czech Republic and Poland," McCain said in a statement.
Iran said it fired the medium- and long-range missiles to warn the United States and Israel that it was ready to retaliate if they attacked over its disputed nuclear projects.
