Obama's weak argument on foregoing public finance

NY Times:

Senator Barack Obama announced Thursday that he would not participate in the public financing system for presidential campaigns. He argued that the system had collapsed, and would put him at a disadvantage running against Senator John McCain, his likely Republican opponent.

...

“The public financing of presidential elections as it exists today is broken, and we face opponents who’ve become masters at gaming this broken system,” Mr. Obama said. “John McCain’s campaign and the Republican National Committee are fueled by contributions from Washington lobbyists and special interest PACs. And we’ve already seen that he’s not going to stop the smears and attacks from his allies running so-called 527 groups, who will spend millions and millions of dollars in unlimited donations.”

...
This is a specious and bogus argument. They would both have the same amount of campaign money and Obama would have a decided advantage in 527 smear merchants like to ridiculous MoveOn ad that is already running. In 2004 these groups significantly outspent Republican groups.

Obama's real problem is that he needs about a three to one spending advantage to be competitive in many states. In the last months of the Democrat primary he had that three to one advantage over Clinton and still lost most of the major contests. I think he believes he will lose if he had an even contest in the money race and he is probably right.

His message is already falling apart in the early stages of the the contest as he is smoked out on his liberal positions that are out of tune with voters. Even his war position is only supported by 30 percent of the voters and that has supposedly been his strength.

If MoveOn's baby ad is any indication of the effectiveness of their support, Obama is in serious trouble. Don't those idiots know that we have a voluntary military that does not take babies? Doesn't MoveOn know that even if McCain serves two terms that baby still would not be eligible to volunteer while McCain was in office. Why are they treating the military like infants instead of the infantry. By the time someone is elgible to volunteer their mother has no say in the decision. This ad is sicker than their Gen. Betrayus ad.

  1. The twit in the ad will try to raise the kid up to be a wuss like her. I hope he 'rebels' and joins the Army.
