McCain responds to Obama demagoguery on GI bill
Marc Ambinder has McCain's statement as well as the Obama statement that provoked it.
I am glad to see McCain challenge Obama's dip into the politics of fraud that represents so much of what Democrats use during campaigns.
...It is worth reading in full. McCain explains the bill he supported which is a far better bill than the one that passed. It is absurd and totally dishonest to suggest that he does not care about veterans when McCain is supporting a bill that gives more benefits and encourages retention.
... Both Senator Webb and I are united in our deep appreciation for the men and women who risk their lives so that the rest of us may be secure in our freedom. And I take a backseat to no one in my affection, respect and devotion to veterans. And I will not accept from Senator Obama, who did not feel it was his responsibility to serve our country in uniform, any lectures on my regard for those who did.
...
"Perhaps, if Senator Obama would take the time and trouble to understand this issue he would learn to debate an honest disagreement respectfully. But, as he always does, he prefers impugning the motives of his opponent, and exploiting a thoughtful difference of opinion to advance his own ambitions. If that is how he would behave as President, the country would regret his election."

OK. I get it. Obama is part of the evil empire and is a tool of the devil while McCain represents God and all things good.
ReplyDeleteWe've spent the past 6 years being told that anyone opposing the GOP game plan is unamerican. Now maverick McCain has assumed the leadership role in equating honest debate with surrender.
With all his experience he refuses to acknowledge that Americans refuse to accept the need to spend more time in Iraq than it took to defeat the Axis in WW2.
The economy is a mess, the GOP has sold out true conservative principals and yet they expect us to believe their leadership is the direction this country needs. No mas.
