Political murders in Zimbabwe

Telegraph:

A member of Zimbabwe's opposition party Movement for Democratic Change has been fatally stabbed by supporters of the ruling Zanu-PF, according to the MDC.

"We are sad to inform you that we have lost one of our members... who passed away on Saturday after being stabbed by Zanu-PF supporters at his homestead,"Thokozani Khupe, the MDC vice-president, said in a statement.

At least 20 other MDC supporters have been admitted to hospital in Harare after attacks by Zanu-PF members, he added.

This is the first death in the chaos that has followed the country's disputed general elections, raising concerns that the violence has reached a new and more dangerous stage.

A police spokesman said that the death did not appear to be politically motivated.

It seems obvious that that the police in Zimbabwe are not serious about protecting opponents of Mugabe. It is becoming increasingly apparent that an outside force will be necessary for justice to be reestablished in Zimbabwe.
