Cornyn has huge money advantage over Democrat opponent

Houston Chronicle:

Republican incumbent U.S. Sen. John Cornyn enters the general election campaign with $26 in the bank for every one held by Democratic challenger Rick Noriega, according to reports released Tuesday.

Cornyn reported having in the bank almost $8.7 million at the end of March; Noriega had $329,293.

In a state the size of Texas, a general election television advertising campaign that reaches most voters costs about $1.2 million a week.

Under that calculation, Cornyn could run television ads for seven weeks with the cash he has now; Noriega, about four days.

Noriega noted that his fundraising picked up dramatically after he defeated three opponents in the March 4 Democratic primary. He had raised $111,000 between Jan. 1 and mid-February, and then he raised $367,209 before the end of March.

...

Cornyn reported raising $2.2 million in the quarter ending March 31. In the current election cycle, Cornyn has raised $13.8 million.

...

As important as the money in the bank is, Cornyn's real advantage is on the issues. Noriega is a Defeatocrat who wants to lose the war in Iraq. That alone is enough to disqualify him in Texas. He would also vote for Harry Reid to be Majority Leader, which means he would back a guy who does not know the difference between insult and argument. He would also oppose conservative judges. There is just no good reason to even consider him in this race.

Cornyn has been an outstanding Senator. I put him in the top five in Washington and it is hard to name the other four off the top of my head. He has been brilliant in crafting legislation and resolutions. His resolution that was passed saying it is not in the US national interest for Iraq to be a failed state put many Democrats in a no win situation, but they had to vote for it anyway despite many of their constituents who deeply desire that Iraq become a failed state.

He deserves reelection.
