This sounds worse than water boarding

One of Zimbabwe's leading human rights campaigners has issued the world with a startling reminder of the horrific abuse and torture being suffered under Robert Mugabe's regime ahead of the country's elections in three weeks' time.

Takavafira Zhou, a trade union activist, was seized by government police two weeks ago and, while imprisoned, did not know if he would make it out of the torture chamber alive. Beaten to within an inch of his life, Mr Zhou was told to repeat the slogan "Robert Mugabe is always right", and now he has come to Britain to preach the reverse.

Still bearing the scars that are a testament to President Mugabe's brutal rule, Mr Zhou is to defy his oppressors by telling protesters today at the Action for Southern Africa (Actsa) pro-democracy rally in Trafalgar Square of the human rights violations taking place in his country. From there he and his trade union colleagues will go to Brussels to lobby the EU commissioner for Human Rights to take action against the dictator.

I think the folks in Brussels would be much more exercised if it were happening at Gitmo. Since it is African on African abuse it is no big deal to many liberals. When will Robert Mugabe make the "Worst Person in the World" on MSNBC?

In the upcoming elections Mugabe has chosen Sudan and Libya as "monitors to oversee the freedom and fairness of the poll.... 'on the basis of objectivity and impartiality in their relationship with Zimbabwe.'” A real collection of civil libertarians it appears.

Drones appear to be replacing jets for many operations.  The Russia-Ukraine war is an example of that.  Drones are often hard to detect and can be used for intelligence operations as well as for attacking enemy targets.  It would not surprise me to see drones engaging other drones in combat.  They also cost much less than manned fighters.

Apple's huge investment in US including Texas facility

Blaze: Apple announced a $500 billion commitment to infrastructure in the United States over four years, its largest commitment to domestic spending to date. Apple said it will expand teams and facilities in Arizona, California, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, and Washington as part of its new spending. With a new facility in Houston, Texas, Apple will reportedly double its investment in advanced manufacturing along with increasing investments in AI and silicon engineering. The company said in a press release that the Houston facility will produce servers to support Apple Intelligence, the "personal intelligence system that helps users write, express themselves, and get things done." ... The Texas facility will be for advanced technologies.   Texas has become a place that is very supportive of the tech industries.  Austin and Houston have seen much of the tech growth in the state.  Texas universities have been active in the AI field.
