Nubs to be reunited with his Marine

San Diego Union Tribune:

A month after they parted, Nubs will be reunited with his San Diego-based Marine.

Maj. Brian Dennis is returning from Iraq and is scheduled to arrive at Camp Pendleton about 2 a.m. Saturday. The dog, family and friends will be waiting, said Patty Brooks, spokeswoman for the Rancho Coastal Humane Society. Dennis, who is based at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station, befriended the dog, who was living at an Iraqi border fort, while stationed in Al Anbar Province.

He named the German shepherd/border collie mix Nubs because he was missing most of his ears.

Nubs became devoted to Dennis, at one point tracking his Marine unit when it moved 70 miles away.

...
My guess is that Nubs will remember the Marine who saved his life by pulling a screwdriver out of his chest and staying with him all night when he was recovering. Dogs recognize their friends. Welcome home Maj. Dennis and Semper Fi.
