'No mail until the morale improves'

It was an old joke in the leadership classes during Marine Corps Basic School for officers, but the UK appears to have a serious problem in the Prince of Wales son had to wait until late February to get his Christmas Card according to the Sunday Daily Mail.

Speedier delivery of morale-boosting mail from home will be a major topic for Prince Harry on his return from Afghanistan.

Describing the current distribution system as "pants", he said he received a Christmas card from his father in February, two months after the Prince of Wales sent it.

Letters from home, like the one he treasures from his brother William, telling him how proud their mother Diana, Princess of Wales, would be of him serving his country, make a huge difference, he said.

At large bases, with email, internet and regular mail, there are no problems. In remote outposts or out on reconnaissance work in the desert it is different.

When a group of journalists arrived at a grid reference in a Chinook helicopter last week, Harry's first question was: "Have you brought any post?"

When I was out in the bush in Northern I Corps Vietnam, mail was a high priority item. I usually get letters from home within a week or so of their being sent. It usually came in with the evening resupply choppers.

Meanwhile, Blackfive says the paratroopers in Afghanistan would like to hear from you. Let them know how much you appreciate what they are doing for us. You can send an email of support to skysoldiers173rd@gmail.com.
