Iraq is worth it
CNN:
As the Iraqi national security adviser indicates we now have an ally in the war against the terrorist in the government of Iraq. That was one of our objectives in liberating the country.
As the Iraq war entered its sixth year, the country's national security adviser urged Americans to be patient, contending that the war is "well worth fighting" because it has implications about "global terror."Sen. Bob Menendez made the argument for losing and started with the big lie about Bush lying. This is getting old. Menendez knows Bush did not lie to start a war. He is just being dishonest because it appeals to the kooks on the left. Menendez is just abusing the definition of the word lie."This is global terrorism hitting everywhere, and they have chosen Iraq to be a battlefield. And we have to take them on," Mowaffak al-Rubaie said Sunday on CNN's "Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer."
"If we don't prevail, if we don't succeed in this war, then we are doomed forever," he said. "I understand and sympathize with the mothers, with the widows, with the children who have lost their beloved ones in this country.
"But honestly, it is well worth fighting and well worth investing the money and the treasure and the sweat and the tears in Iraq."

Who is Mowaffak al-Rubaie? I would argue that we are doomed if we stay. We are expending U.S treasure $$$ at a rate that cannot be sustain indefinitely as suggested by Sen John McCain. We don't have endless resources. We are starting to see the initial effects of the war now.
ReplyDeleteAs the value of the dollar decreased, the price for oil has increased. We are made to pay more for a barrel of oil. This will cause price of other items goods and services to increase. It cost more to transport goods and services. It cost more to produce the same items. The other day I passed a development of a commercial pad site. I pointed out to my children that the cost of this retail site is significantly greater since we pay $40-50 more per barrel of oil than three years ago. The company I know must be paying much more for the desiel fuel to run the heavy equipment to develop the commercial retail site. This cost will just get passed on to the business that rent the space in the future. This cost will just get passed on to the consumer. Can anyone say $3.00 for a cup of starbucks coffee?
As it continues to put pressure on the world oil price, the cost of this war will find its way throughout the us economy. We are going to pay dearly.
From the cold war, we can learn a valuable lesson. A nation cannot sustain war expenses indefinitely. Eventually, we are not going to be able to afford to purchase items on the world markets. Basic food stuff is going to become harder to purchase, first by poor and then those who have more money. When people become hungry. To whom will they turn? The government can't help because all of our money is in Iraq.
The cost is just the latest excuse of those who want to lose the war. In fact as a percent of GDP the cost of this war is less than the cold war which we won over a much longer period of time. The cost of losing will be much greater. It will mean a longer war and will mean giving advantages to the enemy that will help him sustain his war against us. It would be very foolish to buy into this latest argument for losing and very costly.
