Columbia takes Chavez to International Criminal Court

BBC:

Colombian President Alvaro Uribe says he will ask the International Criminal Court to bring genocide charges against President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela.

He accused Mr Chavez of sponsoring and financing Colombian Farc rebels. Venezuela denies the charge.

Colombian officials say a laptop found during a raid on a Farc camp held files indicating Venezuela gave Farc $300m.

...

"Colombia proposes to denounce the president of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, in the International Criminal Court for sponsoring and financing genocide," Mr Uribe said.

...

I am not a fan of the ICC or the lawfare approach to dealing with terrorism. However this could be a real test of the seriousness of the court. I suspect that Columbia will need more than a laptop hard drive to convince the court. The evidence may be attainable through banking transactions and if the hard drive leads the investigators to the banks where the funding was provided, the case could get real interesting.

With Chavez's help in facilitating the shipment of FARC cocaine to Africa and Europe as has been alleged, he may face even more serious court cases than before the ICC.

  1. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, WOULD YOU PLEASE STOP SPELLING THE COUNTRY'S NAME "COLUMBIA"?!?!?!

I WOULD THINK THAT AN ATTORNEY WOULD BE A BIT MORE CAREFUL THAN TO CONFUSE A VERY WELL-KNOWN COUNTRY, AND ALLY IN THE US' WAR ON DRUGS, WITH A STATE CAPITAL.
