War crimes charges listed against 9-11 defendants
...That is bad news for justice because none of the three remaining candidates have shown much resolve when it comes to Gitmo and the terrorist housed there. The detainees will face charges including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, attacking civilians, intentionally causing serious bodily injury, terrorism and hijacking, said the general who is serving as legal adviser to the military commissions trying the detainees.
The 169 charges allege a "long-term, highly sophisticated plan by al Qaeda to attack the United States of America," Hartman said.

A 90-page document was released listing the names of those killed on the three airplanes.
All six suspects are accused of helping plan the September 11 attacks in which hijackers flew two jets into the World Trade Center in New York and another jet into the Pentagon in Washington. Another hijacked plane crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
...However, several legal and political challenges remain, and CNN senior legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin said it could be five years before any of the detainees go to trial.
"One thing's clear about Guantanamo is that the next president is going to have to resolve this," Toobin said.

The daughter of a good friend of mine was killed on Flight 93 which crashed near Shanksville, PA.
The delays in trying these people are unfortunate. Further delay would be worse. The cases will be subjected to the terrorist rights agenda which, if successful could result in the mass murderers being set free. For example, it is unlikely that any of these guys received a Miranda warning. If such a warning had been given, it is unlikely we would have discovered other plots and made other arrest.
Whatever the outcome of the proceedings these guys should be held at Gitmo for the remainder of the conflict as enemy combatants. Unfortunately McCain and the Democrats want to close Club Gitmo. That would be a huge mistake for very small PR value.
