Family ties in Sean Taylor murder?

By family accounts, Sean Taylor and (Sasha) Johnson (his half sister)were close. Though they grew up miles apart, they remained linked despite the upheavals of their childhoods, family members said. Junor (his mother) gave birth to four children, two boys and two girls, from three different men, and then struggled to keep the household afloat. At one point, she has said, they had to stay with the Salvation Army.

Sean Taylor spent most of his childhood living with his father, Pedro Taylor, now the police chief in Florida City, Fla. Dwayne Johnson said he raised Sasha from the time she was 2. They moved from Miami to Fort Myers when she was about 5. During Sasha Johnson's senior year at Dunbar -- she graduated in May 2005 -- she began dating Christopher Devon Wardlow, (who is related to one of the men who confessed involvement in the crime) who goes by the name Devon.

This case appears to be a microcosm of the breakdown of black family units and the subsequent lawlessness that has led to an epidemic of black on black murders. This dysfunctional culture has been ignored by the "down with the struggle" civil rights leadership who are more concerned with grievance mongering than what is happening around them.

Leonard Pitts gives some of the stark stats.

And this is how we die. We die in profligate numbers. Just under 15,000 Americans were murdered in 2006. Roughly half of them -- 7,421 -- were black. African Americans are 12 percent of the nation's population.

And this is how we die. We die young. Of the 7,421 African-American murder victims of 2006, more than 40 percent -- 3,028 -- were Taylor's age or less.

And this is how we die. We kill one another. Of the 3,303 African-American murder victims whose assailants are known to authorities, 92 percent were killed by other blacks.

Life is the ultimate civil right, but the "down with the struggle" civil rights movement is more interested in the perps in prison than their victims. Stopping this crime wave of black on black crime should be a bigger priority than trying to lynch some innocent white lacrosse players.
