Three suspected Islamic terrorists from an al-Qaida-influenced group nursing "profound hatred of U.S. citizens" were arrested on suspicious of plotting imminent, massive bomb attacks on U.S. facilities in Germany, prosecutors said today.Yes good work Germany. I hope you successfully invaded their privacy by intercepting their communications to learn of the plot. The NY Times reports:
German Federal Prosecutor Monika Harms said the three, two of whom were German converts to Islam, had trained at camps in Pakistan run by the Islamic Jihad Union, a group based in Central Asia. They had obtained some 1,500 pounds of hydrogen peroxide for making explosives.
"We were able to succeed in recognizing and preventing the most serious and massive bombings," Harms told reporters.
Harms declined to name specific targets, but said the suspects had an eye on institutions and establishments frequented by Americans in Germany, including discos, pubs and airports.
Sudwestfunk televison, citing unnamed security sources in Berlin, reported that Frankfurt international airport and U.S. Ramstein Air Base were among the targets.
Defense Minister Franz Josef Jung, appearing on a morning ARD television show, was asked if the airport and U.S. base were targeted.
"I ask you to understand that I cannot say anything about the details. But I will say again, our security forces were very active here and in my view did very good work," Jung said.

...These guys sound like they may have been a part of the plot the Taliban bragged about in a famous video where they said they had just trained hundreds to go back to Europe for attacks. It also appears that German intelligence was paying attention and took the threat seriously. Having caught the perps red handed mixing the chemicals, the terrorist right crowd will have to work hard to make these guys appear to be victims. Don't worry, they will come up with something and by using a lawfare approach the Germans will give away their sources and methods of tracing these guys thereby making it easer for al Qaeda's next plot.
The arrests were made Tuesday evening at a vacation home in Oberschlendorn, a sleepy village in the state of North Rhine Westphalia, north of Frankfurt. The suspects were mixing chemicals to make explosives, the official said. Police also found a van that they believe was to be used to transport the explosives to Frankfurt and Ramstein, in southwestern Germany.
For months, German officials have warned that the country was under threat of a terrorist attack, in part because of the German military’s deployment in Afghanistan. Officials said that they were particularly worried by reports of Germans taking part in terrorist training camps in Pakistan, near the Afghan border, and then returning to Germany with a goal of carrying out attacks.
“The modus operandi looks pretty much like the one we had warnings about,” the security official said. “There is some evidence that the people arrested took part in training camps.”
The German federal prosecutor said that the arrests were made during a series of police raids across the country. The mayor of Oberschlendorn, Heinrich Nolte, told the German news agency DPA that one of the suspects was shot by police during the raid, which he described as dramatic.
