Another shameless Schumer moment

Don Surber:

My Washington bureau chief (one of them) is pissed at Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York for dissing the troops. Schumer took the floor to harangue the administration. Fine. Then he said:

“And let me be clear, the violence in Anbar has gone down despite the surge, not because of the surge. The inability of American soldiers to protect these tribes from al Qaeda said to these tribes we have to fight al Qaeda ourselves. It wasn’t that the surge brought peace here. It was that the warlords took peace here, created a temporary peace here.”

Schumer heads the Democratic Senate campaign for 2008. Remember when James Clyburn of the South Carolina, the No. 3 Democrat in the House, said that good news from Iraq would be bad news from the Democrats?

...

Rush played the clip on his show today. One of the interesting aspects of the statement is how ignorant he is of counterinsurgency operations and the work that goes into them. He is absolutely oblivious also to the work that went into Anbar that set up the switch and what has been accomplished by our troops with the help of the Sheiks. It is hard to imagine a more ignorant remark. What is clear that his ignorance is motivated by his partisan desire to lose the war and to denigrate the accomplishments of those trying to win.
