Vietnam and the liberals

Liberals tend to see our defeat in Vietnam as a victory for liberalism. Conservatives see it as a tragedy for South East Asia and a sad day for the US.

I heard Paul Begala one time say that many Americans have never forgiven the Democrats for being right about Vietnam. He could not be more wrong. The Democrats had a poor strategy for fighting a war they were responsible for and they had a terrible strategy for ending it. I can't think of a thing they got right.

They screwed that war up coming and going and they are doing their worst to screw up the war in Iraq. We should be doing our best to defeat the enemy in Iraq and the Democrats in the US. Our troops are doing their job and it is up to us at home to keep the Democrats from losing this war too.

When the President used the Vietnam analogy, you just knew the liberals would not comprehend what he was talking about. They wiped the results of their folly from their memory chips. John Kerry has recently said that the bloodbath did not happen and the re education camps were not so bad. That is a sick rationalization from a guy who slandered our troops in Vietnam as an excuse to lose. You can bet Kerry and the liberals think Gitmo is worse than the reeducation camps in Vietnam. And, if it was such a wonderful place after the communist took over how come people weren't getting a boat to go there instead of risking their life to leave by the millions?

Some think that Americans have already made up their mind about Iraq. I do not. I think most Americans want to win. They certainly should not tolerate those who want to lose.

One of the problems the anti war left has is that they see success in Iraq as an excuse for further interventions and uses of force. Those who know something about military history know that success in Iraq will mean we will have to use force less often because the threat of the sue of force will be more meaningful. One of the reasons we are having the difficulty with Iran and Syria today is they see the Democrats' desperation for defeat and they think they have nothing to fear from us anymore. The same can be said for al Qaeda who sees a possibility for a victory in Washington that it cannot win in Iraq or Afghanistan.

The Democrats flawed vision of Vietnam has led them to a flawed vision in Iraq. I heard one today make the completely false statement that insurgencies cannot be defeated. The fact is they rarely win. You just have to have the patience to stick to it and win. Most take between nine and 11 years to win. We are in the middle of year four and our troops are doing well and there is a grassroots reconciliation process that is going on that is being ignored by the Democrats looking for an excuse to lose.
