US kills al Qaeda mosque bomber in Iraq

U.S. forces said on Saturday they had killed the al Qaeda leader who masterminded the bombing that destroyed the twin minarets of the revered Shi'ite Golden Mosque in Samarra in June.

An earlier bombing of the mosque in February 2006 triggered a wave of tit-for-tat sectarian violence between majority Shi'ite and minority Sunni Arabs that has killed tens of thousands.

The U.S. military said Haitham al-Badri, the al Qaeda leader in Salahuddin province, was killed by U.S. forces on August 2.

They said he was responsible for the bombing of the Golden Mosque on June 13 this year that destroyed its minarets and sparked a series of revenge attacks on Sunni mosques.

"During an operation August 2 east of Samarra, Coalition Forces killed ... Haitham al-Badri, the al-Qaeda in Iraq emir of Salahuddin province. He is also the terrorist mastermind responsible for the Golden Mosque bombing in Samarra on June 13," the U.S. military said in a statement.

The continuing roll up of al Qaeda leaders in Iraq is getting hard to ignore and this was a big one. His bombing of the minarets was a desperate attempts by al Qaeda to restart the "sectarian civil war" they started with the earlier bombing after the Iraqi elections. Al Qaeda's situation in Iraq grows more desperate everyday and their only hope for a bail out is the Democrats in Washington.

The LA Times has more on the action that led to his death. He was apparently also accused of kidnapping and killing an Iraqi reporter and two of her assistants.

Update: Gateway Pundit has a post where in the Saudi Minister of Culture and Information blamed Zionists for the Golden Mosque blasts in Samarra! The willful ignorance makes you think that some of the Saudis are suffering from the same disease as Democrats when it somes to the war in Iraq, they just have different "demons" to blame.

Apple's huge investment in US including Texas facility

The Texas facility will be for advanced technologies.   Texas has become a place that is very supportive of the tech industries.  Austin and Houston have seen much of the tech growth in the state.  Texas universities have been active in the AI field.
