Name the party--corruption in New Orleans

Reuters:

A prominent New Orleans city councilman who had said he would run for mayor in 2010 is expected to plead guilty on Monday to federal corruption charges, a newspaper reported on Saturday.

Councilman Oliver Thomas reached a plea bargain agreement with U.S. prosecutors investigating corruption in the city's government, the New Orleans Times-Picayune, citing unnamed sources, said in its online edition.

Thomas could not be reached for comment.

The paper said Thomas, a leading voice for the recovery of New Orleans from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, is accused of demanding illegal payments from a company that won a city contract to run parking lots in the famed French Quarter.

Thomas, a councilman for 13 years, was expected to be a strong candidate for mayor when the city picks a successor to Ray Nagin in 2010.

...
Reuters never gives Thomas' party affiliation, but almost all New Orleans politicians are Democrats. For some reason the dateline on this story is Houston. Writing from a safe distance, the story did give the party affiliation of Congressman Jefferson (Democrat) and Sen. Vitter (Republican). While Jefferson is under indictment and was found with cash in his freezer, Vitter was found with his phone number on a hookers phone bill. There is no indication that the alleged sex involved a political favor.

Don Surber digs deeper and finds much more on the perp.
