The bogus claims of the left about Padillia case
The left is claiming that the Padillia case proves the lawfare method of fighting terrorism works. All it really proves is that we got lucky because we found Padillia's job application with al Qaeda. That want ever happen again.
That is exactly why these cases are counterproductive. Al Qaeda learns what evidence can be used against it and no longer uses it. That is what happened after the trial of the embassy bombers where we introduced evidence of Osama bin Laden's satellite phone contacts with the bombers. After that he quit using this valuable source of intelligence.
If the bombers had been taken to Gitmo and held for the duration of the war, we probably would have intercepted the satellite phone communications between Osama and the 9-11 plotters. Then maybe not, because he would be talking to his operatives in this country and the Democrats would want us to stop listening to that call and run to the FISA court.
The lawfare model remains deeply flawed and Democrats are go to get a lot of us killed before this war is over by insisting on making the war a crime scene rather than a battle space.
Meantime, anyone who thinks that al Qaeda will be dumb enough to get application documents from its new agents is delusional. It happened in Afghanistan, because al Qaeda thought it had a secure sanctuary. They don't think that anymore.
