President's support for Petraeus is turned on its head
Thomas Ricks has a story in the Washington Post today the thrust of which is that the President is setting Gen. Petraeus up to take the fall for failure in Iraq.
This is perverse logic and nothing could be further from the truth. While all commanders are responsible for what happens under their command, what the President is doing is attempting to buy the time Gen. Petraeus needs to be successful. Those who are bent on losing and desirous of retreat resent his support for Gen. Petraeus.
The story suggest the sickness of the mindset in Washington among those who have decided to lose a war that is very winnable.
