A new Brit destroyer makes its debut

Times:

...

HMS Daring, a new Type 45 destroyer, carries weaponry capable of hitting an object the size of a cricket ball travelling at twice the speed of sound. It is the first warship to be propelled by electric engines, which are driven by an onboard gas and diesel power station. Her makers, BAE Systems, says she generates enough electricity to power the Shetland Islands....
It is described as the "most advanced warship in the world." It is certainly an unusual looking craft. Instead of having to hook up to shore power in port, the ship seems capable of providing electricity to the port. The weapons systems for the boat are certainly not obvious.

The Scotsman has more on the new ship.

...

The 500ft vessel can also make itself appear as small as a fishing boat to enemy radar, and is armed with missiles 20 times more manoeuvrable than a Formula One car.

...
If it checks out, it will be a very impressive ship.

  1. If you mean "not obvious" in the sense of being radar stealthy, well that's the idea :-)
