Dems not negative enough?

Don Surber:

A psychologist has the solution to all the Democratic Party’s problems: Get more emotional. If the party gets anymore emotional in its pleas, it will sound like a babbling lunatic. No, by emotional, the psychologist means “go negative.”

The LA Times reported:

He writes that when Sen. John F. Kerry of Massachusetts let a Swift-boat veterans group drag his reputation through the mud (2004), when Al Gore put a nation to sleep with his talk of lockboxes and Medicare actuaries (2000), and when Michael S. Dukakis said he didn’t believe in the death penalty even in the event of his wife’s rape and murder (1988), Democrats were exhibiting their single worst tendency: intellectual dispassion.

Really? Poor little Democrats, never show emotion or go negative. Except:

...

Go negative? If Democrats go any more negative, they will form a black hole.

He gives some great examples. I would offer a couple from this weekend where the Dems (probably the Hillary Clinton campaign) fed a hit piece on Giuliani to the Washington Post and a hit piece on Fred Thompson to the NY Times. If they were Democrat candidates being attacked it would be called "Swift boating."

  1. Cool blog. I like the format...evidence then reaction. I want to be a political science or international relations major, so this is interesting.

I'd really appreciate feedback from you about my blog, or rather, the idea I put up on my blog. Thanks for the good reading at any rate.
