Al Qaeda is a parasitic enemy
Al Qaeda is parasitic in several regards, but one of the least understood aspects of that is in its strategy. One aspect of the strategy is to create chaos so that the public will welcome an Islamist entity to take control. This is how the Taliban came in in Afghanistan and the Islamic Courts used a similar strategy in Somalia. In both cases cases al Qaeda assisted the indigenous forces and anticipated having a sanctuary in which to train and operate for its global war.
They have a similar strategy in Iraq and the "sectarian civil war" is a part of that strategy. However, they have so alienated even their earlier allies in Iraq that they have had to invent make believe friends to act as the indigenous savior. This was revealed this week when MNFI announced that group al Qaeda had allied itself with in Iraq was just a front organization with actors playing parts.
Further evidence of this alienation is in the increasing number of Sunni trial leaders who are rallying to our side in Iraq.
Al Qaeda is parasitic on the operational level too. The 9-11 attacks used our airlines to attack our buildings. It is incapable of producing airplanes or mustering an air forces so it developed a plan to use planes belonging to others. Its car bomb attacks are in cars created by others.
Most of its attacks in Iraq are not ones where it can take and hold or control an area. They are more like cock roaches that infest an area and hope that the host will leave.
It is the misunderstanding of the parasitic nature of al Qaeda's strategy in Iraq that allows Democrats to confuse the debate about al Qaeda's operations in Iraq and what will happen if we leave. We have already seen a preview with the chaos they created after the bombing of the golden mosque. Expect more of that if the Democrats forces us to leave Iraq before we have defeated them.
