Sprint Mobile broadband card
As most of you know, I live in the country. Land line broadband is not available and is not likely to be available anytime soon. I have looked at several options including satellite broadband, but rejected them as too expensive and too limited.
I initially did not think the broadband card would work that well here either since my cell phone service is pretty marginal and the dedicated broadband service for the card is limited to certain cities. However, I decided to take advantage of a 30 day trial period for the card and have been pleasantly surprised. It actually works better out here than it did in Houston.
It is still much more expensive than land line broadband. The card's initial cost was $189 and the monthly addition to my cell service is $59 for unlimited use. It only works on my laptop too, although there was a USB version available it was a little awkward.
The card fits neatly in the slot provided on my Compaq laptop, and I understand that newer versions come with the card built in.
Other mobile broadband cards apparently have limited use charges and did not have cell service in my area, so you need to be careful in selecting your service if you decide to go this route. I think I will be especially pleased with using this when traveling. Hotel wifi has been spotty and erratic.
