Senior al Qaeda leader arrested in Afghanistan

AP/Houston Chronicle:

U.S. and Afghan forces have arrested a senior al-Qaida member in southeastern Afghanistan, a provincial police chief said today.

The troops detained six people — four Afghans, an Arab and a Pakistani — on Thursday in the city of Khost, said Mohammad Ayub, the provincial police chief. He said the detainees are under the custody of U.S. forces.

The arrested al Qaeda leader may have been one of the escapees from a Bagram jail break last year. He apparently was not one one of the group of al Qaeda ordered out of Afghanistan according to this story.

Bill Roggio has much more on the capture and recent events in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
