Perry leads by 17 in Texas Governor's race

Houston Chronicle:

Gov. Rick Perry holds a commanding lead in a new Dallas Morning News poll over three challengers as the campaign nears Tuesday's vote.

The poll of 823 likely voters interviewed Oct. 29-Nov. 3 had Perry, a Republican, with 39 percent; Democrat Chris Bell with 22 percent; independent Carole Keeton Strayhorn with 18 percent; and Kinky Friedman, also an independent, with 11 percent.

...

The results are pretty close to last weeks Houston Chronicle poll done by Zogby. Bell's late spending has bought him a few Kinky votes, but has not changed the overall trajectory of the race. Democrats in Texas just do not have any potential in a state wide race even in a year where they are supposed to be doing well. In local races, with the exception of Chet Edwards, they need district lines that group their voters to have any success.
