Terrorism, eh?
There is much more in his take on the liberal position on terrorism.North America woke up today with the news that 17 terrorist suspects have been arrested for planning to go Oklahoma City on Ontario. Apparently they had three tons of ammonium nitrate, triple the amount used by McVeigh & Co back in 1995. This is happening in Canada, the flag of which Americans supposedly affix to their backpacks when traveling abroad. For anyone who understands what this terrorist threat is all about, this is no surprise. Those who don’t, what will they attribute this to? Will they claim it is Canadian imperialism, military oppression, unilateralism, or involvement in Afghanistan? Of course they won’t. So what then?
The Toronto Star also reports that the arrests resulted by use of internet surveillance by Canada’s intelligence service, CSIS, which was also one of the targets of those arrested. This comes a day after prominent liberal blogs were beside themselves that the US government wants to enact similar legislation as exists in the EU, forcing Internet Service Providers to keep records about their members’ usage for up to two years. Firedoglake called this a “Constitutional Disconnect” yesterday, without noting that similar laws are already in place for the EU, while making the case that the Bush administration simply cannot be trusted with such power. Today’s news might not reflect well on that politically convenient position. Apparently distrust and hate for Bush trumps giving law enforcement the tools necessary to uncover and prevent terrorism.
So what did blogs like Firedoglake say about this terrorism-bust in Canada? Well I don’t know. Not a single prominent liberal blog has even written any kind of real post on the subject. The conservative blogs are all over it this morning, where are the liberal blogs?...
