Roundup of al Qaeda in Iraq continues, group confesses association with bin Laden

M&C News:

Iraqi, US and British troops conducted raids across Iraq on Sunday, arresting scores of terrorist suspects while an al-Qaeda-linked group released a statement stressing its commitment to continue fighting in Iraq.

A US army source said that seven terrorist suspects believed to be linked to al-Qaeda were arrested in a raid mounted by Iraqi and US troops.

British troops also carried out raids in several neighbourhoods in Omara, 380 kilometres south of Baghdad, and clashed with insurgents, leaving 10 civilians dead and a number of British soldiers wounded, an Iraqi police source said.

Meanwhile, an al-Qaeda-linked group, the Shura Council of the Mujahedeen, said in a statement posted on the internet that it will continue Jihad despite the death of al-Qaeda leader in Iraq Abu Musab al-Zarqawi this week.

'The group was not affected by the martyrdom [death] of its Emir, but has even grown stronger,' the statement said.

The group also said that they have renewed their vow of loyalty to al-Qaeda's top leader Osama bin Laden. The authenticity of the statement could not be verified.

It is interesting that the group says they are stronger without Zarqawi. I guess they did not think much of his leadership and tactical skills.
