Bodies of missing soldiers found
An Iraqi Defense Ministry spokesman said Tuesday that two U.S. soldiers missing since Friday have been found dead, Reuters reported. This is unfortunately what I expected from the enemy in Iraq. They do not believe in POW's or even enemy combatant detainees. They just kill. Fortunately they generally avoid US troops, because that could get them killed. I expect the US will change its procedures to avoid putting troops in a position that could lead to capture after this.U.S. military authorities in Baghdad told CNN they could not confirm the report.
"The two soldiers were killed and they were found in Yusufiya near an electricity plant," Major General Abdul Aziz Mohammed told a news conference in Baghdad, Reuters said.
He did not say when the soldiers were killed or when their bodies were found, according to Reuters.
On Sunday night, the Army identified the two soldiers, who went missing after an attack on an area checkpoint Friday, as Pfc. Thomas Lowell Tucker, 25, of Madras, Oregon, and Pfc. Kristian Menchaca, 23, of Houston, Texas.
An al Qaeda-affiliated group on Monday claimed it kidnapped the two U.S. soldiers south of Baghdad, although the captives were not named.
