15 "miscreants" killed in Pakistan

AP/NY Times:

Pakistani security forces destroyed a militant hideout in a pre-dawn strike near the Afghan border Saturday, killing at least 15 suspected militants, Pakistan's military said.

The attack was launched in Drub Lokai, a town in the North Waziristan tribal region where foreign militants and their local supporters are believed to be hiding, the military said.

The military said the targeted ''miscreants'' were behind recent attacks on security forces, using its term for describing the remnants of the Taliban, al-Qaida and their supporters. The military said between 15 and 20 militants were killed.

A security official in Miran Shah, the main town in North Waziristan, said some foreigners were among the militants killed. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to media, said the suspects were hiding in a home when the army's helicopter gunships launched the strike.

''It was a swift operation. Now ground forces are doing their job,'' he said.

The official said a cache of weapons and explosives was also destroyed in the strike.

It was a bad day to be a miscreant in Pakistan. You have to wonder whether Zarqawis address book may have tipped the Paks.
