My sister reports from Lafayette, La
Power outages so far: 2500 without power in Vermilion parish1500 in Lafayette parish and 1000 in Acadian parish with power lines down from fallen trees...since we are on the south side ours should go out soon, but we don't have SLEMCO, we have Lafayette Utilities. We are only getting bands of rain and gusts of wind at about 35 mph...but our worst should hit us later this evening. New Iberia has been hit hard with 50mph feeder bands. Most of the towns have curfews and they announced on the radio that the bars in Ville Platte will close at 6:00pm.Ricky went to Albertson's this morning and stood in line for about an hour to buy choclate chip cookie mix and a pint of Blue Bell so we can have cookie cake and ice cream tomorrow for Jordan's birthday(there were no cookie cakes in the bakery section)I'll try to let you knowmore if the power holds. The rotating winds are starting to produce tornado warnings in our area...one in Acadia parish now and one they are watching one in Duson about ten miles west of here. These are moving very fast and are widespread and according to Rob Perillo of KATC channel 3 (Lafayette) they are called "gust-nadoes" and they usually bring down the trees that bring down the powerlines that cause the power outages.
