Mainstream media turns ghoulish

John Podhoretz:
If leaders of the mainstream media -- from my old friend Jim Kelly of Time magazine to Jonathan Klein of CNN genuinely think the American people want to see bodies of corpses caused by the levee floods, they have really, really lost it. Instapundit points out that they chose to stop showing horrifying images from 9/11, like the jumpers, because they were worried about inflaming people. But these images are likely only to cause people to be physically ill at worst, and the loss of privacy they will represent to those who died will cause the viewing public to blame the media for showing them in the first place. Parents will not be able to watch the news in their own house, or bring newspapers and magazines into their houses....If the MSM want to continue to have a cow about the unfairness of not being able to show bodies returning from Iraq, by all means let them make a scene about that. But this is a bizarre and repulsive twist on that.OK, here is the difference. The pictures of the victims of 9-11 would remind people what the war is about and cause them to have stronger support for going after the terrorist, which helps President Bush. The pictures of the victims of Katrina are to be used to make Bush look bad. It is called situational ethics.
