Accelerating the lessons learned process in the Marine Corps

From Small Wars Journal:
This is a great idea. As the XO of a rifle company of Marines in northern I Corp in Vietnam, I remember watching the NVA fire a series of mortars at a hill in the distance that would be our objective the next day. At the time I was curious at why they were firing on a hill with no one on it instead of firing on us. I found out the next day when at the same time in the evening they fired the mortars on the same hill wounding me and several others. The enemy had obviously been registering their mortars for a quick hit and run attack. I do not know if that piece of knowledge was ever past on. I was evacuated all the way back to the Bethesda Naval Hospital and never had a chance to tell anyone my suspicions. This spontaneity—the ability for our young leaders, both officer and enlisted, to share their experiences and help one another—is where Gazette is headed. We are working closely with the owners of http://www.smallwarsjournal.com and the leadership of MCCLL to bring this capability to our young Marines, backed up with extensive, indepth material on various topics. As the project develops, we will keep everyone posted.
