400+ refugees make it to Illinois

With their jobs, homes and old lives mostly washed away by Hurricane Katrina, a steady stream of evacuees is making Chicago their place of refuge.

Some are here temporarily, simply looking for a hot meal, a warm shower and a roof over their heads. Others question whether there would be anything to return to in their battered hometowns. Some said they planned to begin new lives in the Chicago area.
